Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams
Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams
MARTHA'S VINEYARD, ISLE OF DREAMS by Susan Branch, New York Times Best Selling Author
The question: Is it still considered a fairy tale if it all comes real?
Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams is the second of a three-part Memoir which, if you read them in order, would look like this:
1- The Fairy Tale Girl (pub 2015)
2- Martha's Vineyard, Isle of Dreams (pub 2016)
3- A Fine Romance (pub 2013)
But, as you can see, due to twisted mind of author, we are reading them, as Susan often reads magazines, from the back forward. She means well.
In MARTHA'S VINEYARD, ISLE OF DREAMS, Susan packs up her broken heart and flies away from California to follow her long-time dream of living in New England and experiencing the four seasons. Having fallen in love with Martha's Vineyard (an island off the coast of Massachusetts) during a short visit seven years earlier, Susan decides it would be the perfect place to stay for a three-month period "just to try it." When she gets there, she slowly comes to realize that nothing is the same, that everything has changed, and so much of it is new. She finds healing in the sea and surf that surrounds the island; she sees magic in snowstorms and autumn leaves, lobster dinners, heart shaped rocks, ferry boats, mittens, winter clothes, fireflies, deep woods, daffodils, church bells, and the discovery of a tiny cottage in the woods that becomes her first "house of creativity" and her inspiration for writing her first book. Starting over is the theme of this book, and the slowly dawning revelations in Susan's struggle to make her dreams come true.
